GC Airport Southern Terminal Expansion Project
GC Airport Southern Terminal Expansion Project+
Queensland Glass worked tirelessly alongside Lendlease to deliver the $260 million Gold Coast Airport Southern Terminal Expansion Project. The project, which took three years to complete from construction commencement in 2019, was continued throughout the pandemic despite the heavy impacts on the airport and aviation sector more broadly. The modern three-level, 30,000m2 expansion connects seamlessly with the existing terminal and is geared for increased capacity in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics.

One of the standout features of the new terminal expansion is the remarkable curtain walling system adorning the western facade. This bespoke solution was meticulously crafted and tested in-house, ensuring optimal functionality and aesthetics while maintaining thermal compliance. The feature façade enhances the terminal’s visual appeal whilst maximising natural light and energy efficiency, creating a comfortable and eco-friendly environment for passengers and staff.
In addition, a range of external glazing solutions were incorporated, including flush-glazed window walls and automated entrances. Each element was carefully selected to harmonise with the overall architectural design and integrate seamlessly with the existing building. These features not only elevate the aesthetics of the airport but also enhance functionality and accessibility for all stakeholders.
Inside the terminal, we installed approximately 1100m2 of internal partition glazing. This strategic choice emphasises transparency and openness, creating a sense of space and connectivity between the airport’s external environment and the terminal building. The internal glazing allows natural light to permeate the terminal, fostering a welcoming ambience for passengers and staff alike.
Completing the new airport expansion project is a testament to our unwavering commitment, resilience, and dedication. Overcoming the hurdles posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Gold Coast Airport has successfully transformed into a world-class facility poised to cater to the growing demands of air travel.
