Queensland Glass was recently announced the winner of the 2016 AGGA Award for Glazing Safety. This Award recognizes excellence in developing and implementing a solution to an identified health and safety issue.
Queensland Glass developed a safety program in response to the incidence rate of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly the lifting of heavy panels of glass into elevators and awkward positions.
The Armour Safety Program consists of a three-pronged program;
- A Manual Handling Training Program which included a DVD development overseen by a musculoskeletal specialist,
- Development of an APP for Smart Devices that manages all safety documentation in real time and;
- An Online Training Program and manual handling training for all staff.
The panel discussed the nomination and agreed that this three-pronged program demonstrated its effectiveness and usefulness from a safety outcome perspective by way of the highly desired and attained injury rate of 0 (zero) over the period July 2015 to June 2016.
